West Brom have the chance to bring in some new signings this summer

West Brom have turned to Ryan Mason as their new manager. He has been brought in as their replacement for Tony Mowbray ahead of next season. The 33-year-old has penned a three-year deal at the Hawthorns running until the summer of 2028.

The Baggies missed out on the play-offs in the last campaign and will be eyeing promotion again next time around. They have the chance to bring in some new signings this summer. With that in mind, here is a look at three free agents who they should pursue...

Angus Gunn

West Brom sold Alex Palmer to Ipswich Town in the January transfer window. Josh Griffiths was subsequently recalled from his loan spell away at Bristol Rovers and battled it out with Joe Wildsmith for the number one spot. They could do with bringing in a better option between the sticks over the next couple of months though.

Gunn, 29, would be a useful option for the Baggies if they signed him. He has cut ties with Norwich City and is weighing up his options as a free agent. The Scotland international, who has 15 caps under his belt so far, is an experienced operator in the Football League.

He joined the Canaries back in 2021 following spells at Manchester City and Southampton. The Norwich-born man went on to play 121 games during his second stint at Carrow Road, 35 of which came last term. Gunn now has a big decision to make on what direction he wants his career to take now.

Kwame Poku

Poku is believed to be a man in-demand right now with his deal at Peterborough United up at the end of the month. He would be perfect for West Brom if they were able to fend off competition from elsewhere and snap him up for nothing. The 23-year-old would give Mason more competition and depth going forward and another option to pick from.

The attacking midfielder, who can play on either wing as well if needed, started out in non-league at Cray Wanderers and Worthing. He was signed by Colchester United in 2019 and spent two years in Essex before his switch to London Road came about. The once-capped Ghana international hasn’t looked back since and has been one of the Posh’s most prized assets.

Poku has played 147 games for Darren Ferguson’s side and has scored 30 goals. He helped them win the Vertu Trophy earlier this year after they beat Birmingham City in the final. It remains to be seen at this stage where he will end up next.

Cameron Burgess

Burgess’ deal at Ipswich Town runs down in a matter of weeks but he is yet to commit his future to the Tractor Boys. They risk losing him for nothing if he doesn’t put pen-to-paper on fresh terms. Kieran McKenna’s side are back in the second tier after 12 months in the top flight and they finished in the bottom three along with Southampton and Leicester City.

West Brom should try and tempt the Australia international to the Midlands if they can. He would be guaranteed regular first-team football under the guidance of Mason. The centre-back would also tighten up their defensive department.

Burgess joined Ipswich back in 2021 after they took a gamble on him from Accrington Stanley. He then helped them rise from League One to the Premier League and proved to be a useful player to have in and around the dressing room. The Aberdeen-born man has also played for Fulham and Scunthorpe United in the past, among others.
