West Bromwich Albion have signed Marc Albrighton on loan from Leicester City, it has been confirmed by the club. It appears the Baggies have missed out on signing Chelsea youngster, however, with the transfer not completed in time.

It was hoped that both players could be brought in on a temporary basis in the closing moments of the window, but the Hutchinson deal fell through at the final hurdle.

A club statement from Carlos Corberan’s side reads: “Albion have signed Marc Albrighton on loan from Leicester City for the remainder of the 2022/23 Sky Bet Championship season.

“The experienced winger played all 38 games in City’s remarkable 2015/16 Premier League title-winning campaign and added an FA Cup medal to his trophy cabinet in 2021 when the Foxes beat Chelsea 1-0 at Wembley.”

Since signing for Leicester in 2014, Albrighton, 33, made 295 appearances, representing the club in the UEFA Champions League and Europa League. His experience could prove to be key as the Baggies make a push for a potential promotion.

Head coach Corberán is delighted to have a Premier League winner in his ranks. He said: “I have the highest respect for a player who has proven himself at the top level for as long as Marc.

“To have won the Premier League and the FA Cup, and to have played so many games, is testament to a top professional who is determined to win football matches.

“Marc will bring vast experience to the squad, but he is here to make us more competitive, and I am confident he brings the quality we will need as we look to continually improve.”

Albrighton becomes the Baggies’ second signing of deadline day, and in fact the entire window, after Nathaniel Chalobah. West Brom sriker Karlan Grant’s loan move to Swansea City also fell through, despite the best efforts of both clubs and the player to get it completed.
