West Brom have confirmed the deadline day signing of talented young striker Tammer Bany.

West Bromwich Albion have confirmed the deadline day signing of young forward Tammer Bany from Danish side Randers on an three-and-a-half-year deal.

The deal for the versatile 21-year-old, who can play across the front three or as a number ten, is reportedly worth up to €4m (£3.3m) including add-ons. West Brom’s interest in the Dane had remained under the radar and they were just one of a host of European sides who hoped to sign the youngster, but their bid only came to light on the final day of the transfer window, when reports emerged suggesting that he had arrived at the Hawthorns for a medical.

Bany becomes the Baggies’ third signing of the winter transfer window following the addition of Northern Irish midfielder Isaac Price and the loan signing of Tottenham Hotspur starlet Will Lankshear.

Who is new West Brom man Tammer Bany?

Young forward Bany has scored two goals and provided four assists in 15 appearances in the Danish Superliga this season, helping Randers to reach third in the Superliga table in the process.

He was picked up from fellow Danish side B.93 for a fee of around £110,000 a year ago, Bany’s impressive recent form in his home country had sparked the interest of a number of sides, including Scottish Premiership leaders Celtic who had reportedly earmarked Bany to replace Japanese forward Kyogo Furuhashi, who joined French outfit Rennes in a deal worth £10m in January.

Reports also suggested that Belgian side Union Saint-Gilloise had made an offer of over £1m earlier in the window but were knocked back, and a number of teams across the continent have supposedly scouted the talented Dane.

‘Good reason’ for widespread interest

West Brom sporting director Andrew Nestor has welcomed Bany’s arrival, describing the club as “delighted” with the capture, adding that “there has been significant interest in him across Europe, and with good reason, as he is one of the most effective attacking players in Denmark.”

“He is someone we can count on as part of our squad building plans both for now and in future years,” continued Nestor. “We are pleased to get the deal over the line.”

Bany is West Brom’s first signing of deadline day, but the announcement of his arrival came just minutes after the departure of first-choice goalkeeper Alex Palmer was confirmed. Palmer, who had been an ever-present in the league this season, has joined Premier League outfit Ipswich Town for an undisclosed fee.

That means that there is a chance that West Brom are looking into the acquisition of another goalkeeper before the 11pm deadline, although reports suggest that they may also recall 23-year-old goalkeeper Josh Griffiths from his loan spell at Bristol Rovers to compete for the chance to fill the void left by Palmer’s transfer away from the Hawthorns.

Bany, meanwhile, will have the chance to make his Baggies debut on Saturday when Tony Mowbray’s men take on tenth-placed Sheffield Wednesday in the Championship. West Brom will be looking to end a poor recent run of form which has seen them win just one of their last six games in all competitions.
