The latest Championship transfer news as West Brom beat Sheffield Wednesday and Middlesbrough to the signing of a long-term target.

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly set to complete the signing of free agent striker Josh Maja on a permanent transfer, with a medical already completed.

Formerly of Sunderland, Stoke City and Fulham, the forward was the star man for Bordeaux in Ligue 2 last season before seeing his contract expire.

Maja registered 16 goals and six assists in 38 league appearances in 2022/23, though he only netted twice in 17 games when on loan at Stoke City beforehand.

The Express & Star reports The Hawthorns will be Maja’s next destination as Albion are closing in on a free transfer. Medical tests were passed on Monday.

The Nigerian has experience in the Premier League having played 15 times in the top tier with Fulham throughout 2020/21. He scored three times that term.

He was also a prolific scorer for Sunderland – the club he started his career at – as he chipped in with 15 goals in 24 League One appearances during 2018/19.

Maja’s signing is expected to be announced by West Brom imminently, fulfilling Carlos Corberan’s desperate plea for a new number nine.
