West Bromwich Albion have reportedly recorded an interest in Nottingham Forest defender Jonathan Panzo after a move from Scottish Premiership giants Glasgow Rangers fell through.

The 22-year-old spent last season on loan with Coventry City in the Championship as the Sky Blues went agonisingly close to being promoted to the Premier League, losing to Luton Town in the play-off final.

One of Chelsea’s long-lost academy graduates, Panzo started his senior career in France with spells at AS Monaco and Dijon FCO before signing for Forest in January of 2022.

Things haven’t worked out for Panzo at the City Ground since the club’s promotion to the English top flight and he’s now said to be surplus to requirements, with a sale or another loan expected.

Sunday Mirror journalist Darren Witcoop reports Rangers tried to bring in the defender but a deal has collapsed, bringing West Brom, Cardiff City and former club Coventry into the mix.

All three Championship sides have Panzo high up on their list, though it awaits to be seen whether Forest are willing to let him go on a permanent transfer or a temporary switch.

Formerly an England U21 international with five caps to his name, Panzo can play at either centre-back or left-back, providing any respective suitor with versatility and depth.

His experience in top-tier football may also be of interest as he made 26 appearances in Ligue 1 with Dijon throughout the 2020/21 season. This should be one to watch.
