Carlos Corberan unveils West Brom transfer demand amid 'deal completion' claim

West Bromwich Albion are reportedly keen to complete their first signing of the January transfer window before they host Blackburn Rovers on Saturday. The Baggies need new additions due to an injury crisis and an unexpected loan recall at the start of the month, with Carlos Corberan well aware of a particular target area.

It was of course Jeremy Sarmiento's season-long stay being cut short by Brighton & Hove Albion that has thrown a spanner in the works. West Brom were already light on the wings and now they have very few options. Matt Phillips is out long-term with a serious hamstring injury, while Grady Diangana is on international duty with DR Congo.

Daryl Dike's return to the starting lineup was a huge boost on Sunday as the American netted the third goal in Albion's 4-1 FA Cup win over Aldershot Town, but that doesn't solve the issue on the flanks. John Swift, Brandon Thomas-Asante, Tom Fellows and Jovan Malcolm will have to be used as auxiliary options until a new signing is made.

“Without any type of doubt we’re going to need a winger, because we have lost, let’s say, the two first XI wingers we’ve been using in the games – they were Phillips and Jeremy. “We have a gap in this position," Corberan said via Birmingham Mail.

"After, when you cover the gap, you can evaluate the different possibilities, to see if it’s better to add another winger, or to add a player who can give you more than one position. That’s what I’d like to do. Add a specific winger – and then someone who can play in a couple of positions," Corberan said.

Not only has the West Brom boss outlined the position he wants, but he's also indicated the qualities needed. It'll be easier said than done to match these desires, of course, but Corberan is hoping a versatile attacking midfielder can be added to his ranks – in addition to an out-and-out wide man.

"Let’s say he can play as a playmaker and winger, playmaker and striker, winger and striker. In my mind, we’ll go for someone who can go for more than one position because it will protect us better for the rest of the season," Corberan continued.

Birmingham Mail reports West Brom have set out to complete their first January deal before the weekend when Blackburn travel to The Hawthorns. Corberan wants to fill the void in the winger position with a matter of urgency, meaning whoever is chosen is likely to match the profile of player he has described.
