The two managers, contrasting in emotion after an intense and frantic encounter, had an entertaining exchange in the tunnel with one overruling topic of conversation.

Leicester, albeit with a missed penalty, were probably fortunate to run out victors as West Brom missed countless clear-cut opportunities and should’ve scored at least three or four goals. Mikey Johnston and Grady Diangana had the best Albion chances, while Foxes auxiliary right-back made three tremendous goalline clearances.

Both head coaches agreed fate aligned with Leicester, helping the home side soar back to the summit of the Championship standings. “I just said to Carlos outside that today we had been lucky,” Maresca admitted in the post-match press conference.

“He just said to me, ‘You’ve been lucky today but in the last two games we have been lucky’. In football, it’s a matter of balance. What we get today we lost in the last two games in terms of luck –this is football. They gave everything, it’s more about the desire,” Maresca continued.

Albion left the King Power Stadium feeling aggrieved but there are plenty of positives from the trip to the English second-tier’s most impressive outfit. Seven more shots, double the efforts on target and two woodwork hits sum up a dominant attacking performance.

If not points, confidence and momentum should be taken by West Brom ahead of the final two games against Sheffield Wednesday and Preston North End.
