Reports in England and Spain have provided the latest picture on the Southampton manager search.

West Brom boss Carlos Corberan is Southampton's main managerial target, according to a report.

Spanish media outlet Diario AS are reporting that the Saints have made Corberan their 'priority' managerial target. They would be willing to offer him a long contract, along with a large say in the decision making at the club.

In response to that, Baggies transfer insider DOOD (@EyaWeGew) responded: "Now we wait. Let's see if they cough up." He reiterated that Southampton would have to pay £4m to take the Spaniard to St Mary's.

The local media in Southampton, the Daily Echo reported this morning that the Dorset club have sounded out 'several' managerial targets. The process of interviews is now underway with managers whose clubs or representatives have granted their permission to speak to.

Corberan appears to be the leading contender for the role but senior sports reporter Alfie House is reporting that there are more than three candidates under consideration. Sheffield Wednesday boss Danny Rohl is another name which has been strongly linked to the post, but it has not yet been revealed whether the pair have been given permission to speak about the role, or even if there has been an official formal approach.

Former Premier League forward Darren Bent discussed the possibility of Corberan switching clubs. West Brom find themselves in eighth in the Championship, two points off of the play-offs. Southampton are rock bottom of the Premier League on five points, and so there is a distinct possibility the two teams could be trading places come May.

“I like Corberan, he’s very pragmatic,” said Bent who was appearing on a talkSPORT radio show.

“The only reason why it’s a difficult question is because [West Brom and Southampton] could be swapping positions.

“In four or five months’ time, they could swap. I don’t know why you would leave for a side that’s bottom of the Premier League. Southampton are gone, they’re gone.”
