West Brom’s new signing Nathaniel Chalobah is excited to work under ‘passionate’ head coach Carlos Corberan following his late deadline day move from Fulham. The midfielder was one of two new additions to the Baggies ranks as he joined alongside Leicester City man Marc Albrighton who signed on loan.

Chalobah penned an 18-month deal at The Hawthorns, securing his stay until the summer of 2024. And having only made four Premier League appearances this season, the 28-year-old is excited to start life in the Midlands under Corberan.

“I think the most important as a player is having a blank canvas with whoever you are working with,” Chalobah revealed in an interview with WBA.co.uk. That’s the thing that drew me to him (Corberan), it’s more about still educating me as a player regardless of how many games you’ve played.

“I think for me that’s something that really drew me, he’s intense and passionate and that’s something that drew me immediately to him. I’ve been watching plenty of the games recently and from what I’ve seen, it’s been pretty good,” the new man added.

Albion’s resurgence up the Championship table since Corberan took charge has been stunning, with them being bottom when the Spaniard joined the club at the end of October. They now sit just a point away from the play-off positions where they will hope to be come the end of the campaign.

And the new signing believes his new club have what it takes to get promoted.

“I can see that potential,” Chalobah admitted. “It helped me make my decision, with the way things are going and I see the group of players and I just want to play a part in that.”

“Every week in the Championship is a different week, I don’t mean to sound cliché but when you’re playing against the opposition it can be different all of the time. You need hard work and you need everyone to be on the same page.”

The midfielder has two second-tier promotions under his belt with Watford and Fulham respectively along with a Premier League winners medal with Chelsea in 2016/17. Chalobah believes there is one key factor that will help the Baggies with their aim of achieving top-flight status.

“You need momentum which is the biggest thing I’ve learnt from playing in the division,” the new signing said. “Getting promoted last season and doing it the year before with Watford, momentum is key and once you’ve got that going it’s important to keep at it and continue it, that’s something that can drive us over the line if we keep getting results.”

Chalobah only amassed 24 league appearances with his former club Fulham, with injuries often hampering his time on the pitch.

“At the end of the day there’s a lot of things that go on in football,” the midfielder explained. “With things like injuries, they really play a part and it’s about having that mentality of staying strong and being prepared to give my best wherever I am.”
