Middlesbrough are ‘not pursuing’ a West Brom ace, despite prior reports.

Across the country, football fans are waiting with baited breath. Tonight, England will square off with The Netherlands in the semi finals of Euro 2024 - before then, let’s take a look at all the biggest rumours from around West Bromwich Albion and the Championship.

It had been reported that Middlesbrough were looking at a West Brom ace and were trying to strike a deal, however, more recent reports indicate that Boro will not make a move for the player any time soon. They could, however, put forth a formal offer for him at some point in the future.

In addition to this, a Sheffield United player has been linked with a move to Italy. He is considered to be a star player at Bramall Lane - as such, the Blades likely won’t let him go without a fight. As things stand, they want £20 million for his signature.

Middlesbrough ‘not pursuing’ West Brom’s John Swift

Previously, Michael Carrick’s Middlesbrough had been linked with a move for West Brom midfielder John Swift in the summer. However, recent reports have stated the contrary - now, Boro will not ‘pursue’ a move for Swift, according to The Northern Echo.

Football Insider had reported that Middlesbrough were ‘plotting a raid’ to sign the 29-year-old - now, this does not seem to be the case, as Middlesbrough aren’t looking to make a move for the player at this time. Last season, Swift made 37 Championship appearances for the Baggies, scoring nine goals and notching up a solitary assist.

Nevertheless, Boro are understood to be ‘admirers’ of Swift and make return for him at some point in the future. Currently, recruitment staff at the club are ‘happy’ with the options and depth that they have in attacking midfield. Players in their team such as Finn Azaz, Jonny Howson and Riley McGree are all capable of functioning effectively in that particular role - as such, it makes little sense to throw another player into the mix.

Roma linked with Sheffield United’s Gustavo Hamer

Sheffield United, understandably, have had to mix up their squad following their relegation from the Premier League at the end of the 2023/24 season. Changes have been made - and another could be on the horizon, as Gustavo Hamer has been linked with a move to Serie A giants AS Roma.

This is according to a recent report from Italian outlet RomaPress - they claim that United will accept nothing less than £20 million for the Dutchman’s services. While this may seem low, especially in the current market, it would allow the Blades to fully recoup their losses - they signed him for a fee believed to be in the region of £15 million from Coventry City in 2023.

Last season, Hamer was a rare shining light for United amidst a miserable Premier League campaign. He scored five goals and notched up eight assists over the course of 40 appearances in all competitions. Furthermore, he also played in all but two of their Premier League games in the previous season.
