The 33-year-old is one of nine players out of contract this summer. The Baggies are yet to announce their retained list but it looks like after eight years of service, Phillips will be departing the Hawthorns.

In a post shared on his personal Instagram account, he said: “On behalf of me and my family i would like to say a massive thank you for your support over the last 8 years baggies!

“This club will always be in my heart and I wish it nothing but success moving forward! You have an unbelievable manager and a great group of lads that strive each day to do you all proud!. BAGGIES!!”

In response to the post, Alex Mowatt and Alex Palmer said: “What a guy” and “Some guy!”. Karlan Grant, who will be returning to the club this summer after his loan spell at Cardiff City ended said: “Legend!” with Daryl Dike commenting the same along with Conor Townsend.

Phillips joined West Brom in July 2016 from QPR for a reported £5.5m. He made 255 appearances across the eight years he was at the club, scoring and assisting 31 times.

A hamstring injury limited his involvement this season, ruling him out from December to the end of March. He made 26 appearances and got three goals and three assists. Phillips was an unused substitute of both of West Brom’s play-off matches with Southampton.

As mentioned, the retained list is yet to be released. Clubs had until Saturday, May 18 to confirm their retained lists to the EFL but West Brom because of their play-off involvement are allowed more time. Alex Mowatt, Cedric Kipre, Nathaniel Chalobah, Yann M’Vila, Adam Reach, Erik Pieters, Martin Kelly and Ted Cann are all out of contract this summer according to TransferMarkt.
