'I got to live my dream!' - Former West Brom, Brentford, Middlesbrough and Tranmere Rovers star retires at 36
Former West Brom goalkeeper Luke Daniels has announced his retirement from professional football. The 36-year-old who began his spent nine years of his career after beginning it at the Hawthorns is hanging up the gloves.

Hide AdHe was released by Forest Green Rovers this summer, and rather than opting to find a new club, Daniels will now embark on a different journey. After 20 years its time to retire from playing football," said Daniels in a social media post shared on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter.
"It has been a privilege to have represented so many fantastic football clubs over the years and I have been so fortunate to have shared a dressing room with so many amazing players and people. I got to live my dream!”
The boyhood Bolton Wanderers fan was first on the books of Manchester United and spent seven years there before joining West Brom in 2004. He signed his first professional contract in 2006, and he became second-choice goalkeeper in the 2006/07 season.

Hide AdMost of his time spent at West Brom would be spent out on loan, playing for Motherwell, Shrewsbury Town, Tranmere Rovers, Rochdale, Bristol Rovers and Southend United.
Daniels would eventually leave West Brom in 2014, and joined Scunthorpe United, becoming their first-choice for two-and-a-half seasons. Brentford signed him in 2017 and he ended up playing 36 times for the Bees, reverting back to being a secondary goalkeeper.
Middlesbrough signed him when his contract expired with Brentford in 2021 and he played 12 times for the Boro before moving on in 2013. Daniels ended up joining Forest Green Rovers and played 20 times for the Gloucestershire outfit, but he could not prevent them from suffering a second successive relegation which has seen them drop out of the Football League.
