West Bromwich Albion captain Jed Wallace is delighted with the rapid progression of teammate Tom Fellows.

Wallace has lost his regular starting spot at West Brom as an expense of Fellows’ tremendous form, but the skipper has no hard feelings towards his attacking counterpart.

Displaying a classy example of leadership, Wallace has heaped praise on Fellows after he scored his first goal for England Under-21s during the recent international break. Not only that, but Wallace has given some insight into what Fellows is like around the first team.

“Tom’s such a popular figure within the group, as are the other academy graduates such as Ted Cann, Josh Griffiths and Caleb Taylor. They’re all top lads. We know Tom would’ve celebrated last night’s goal in typical fashion by getting himself a glass of water and sticking the snooker on his iPad,” Wallace joked to Albion’s club website.

“Obviously Tom and I play in the same position, but the way he’s started the season, there would be probably about 30 wingers or more sat on the bench watching him play. He’ll come back to training and head out with his mannequin and do extras, because that’s just what he does. Everyone will be excited to see him and congratulate him on his success for England,” Wallace said.

It became public knowledge towards the end of the recent transfer window that Fellows is being continuously tracked by a host of Premier League clubs. Southampton and Ipswich Town even reportedly made bids of £10 million and £11 million respectively, but West Brom emphasised a robust not-for-sale stance.

There’s no wonder why Fellows has attracted interest from the division above as he’s become one of the Championship’s most promising forwards. Fellows began last season as a bench option but soon emerged as a regular starter, in the end contributing four goals and three assists in the league.

The 21-year-old has started the new campaign in style, notching three assists in just four matches - all of which he has started. Carlos Corberan has opted for Fellows ahead of Wallace, who has for many years been one of the Championship’s best talents. It’s an exciting trend and one that’s likely to continue indefinitely.
