Jed Wallace injury update emerges after West Brom skipper hobbled off vs Leeds United

Jed Wallace spoke to Sky Sports about the extent of his injury after going off during West Brom 1-0 Leeds United

West Bromwich Albion captain Jed Wallace has spoken about his condition after being forced off with a groin injury during the 1-0 win over Leeds United on Friday evening. The Baggies' skipper, who delivered the vital low cross for Grady Diangana's winner, was substituted in the 70th minute after pulling up following a corner.

Losing the leadership qualities of Wallace could have hurt Albion as they were under severe pressure in the second half, but Leeds' threat was nullified – just about. The win secured a 12th Championship clean sheet of the season, which is the best record in the entirety of English football, let alone just in the second tier.

West Brom's action in 2023 has now drawn to a close but it isn't long until the next challenge, away at Swansea City on New Year's Day. Fans will be hoping an in-form Wallace will be available for that one as Albion are certainly better when he's fielded. Rather thankfully, it appears the injury isn't serious.

"This time of year, there's a lot of games. I think it was just a bit of fatigue in my groin. I under-hit a corner at the near post and then it felt a bit tight," Wallace told Sky Sports post-match. "You don't really care when you win. We're buzzing. We know there's a long way to go but that's two big games and two wins," Wallace said, excitedly.

Albion have 12 days between the game at Swansea and their next Championship fixture, so a win would do the world of good for the look of the table for a long while. As it stands, five points is the gap to Sunderland in seventh. Bristol City and Middlesbrough are six points behind in eighth and ninth respectively.
