West Bromwich Albion midfielder Jayson Molumby has revealed that head coach Carlos Corberan told his side to “just go for it” at half-time against Stoke City. The Republic of Ireland international scored a second-half brace after the boss released the shackles on his Baggies outfit who went a goal down in the first half.

Albion began the game in a similar fashion to their disappointing draw against Queens Park Rangers and their Good Friday defeat to Rotherham United, but the midfielder admits Corberan’s instructions helped them to win the game. “We just needed to go for it,” Molumby told WBATV.

“That was the message at half-time from the boss. I just ventured into the box at the right time to try and get into the box and get on the end of things and I managed to get two important goals for us.

“We were disappointed in the way we conceded and didn’t play at our best in the first half but we had to dig deep and stick together and thankfully we had to come away with three points. I was just happy to be back and competing with the lads and obviously to get the win, it was massive for us to go away from home and get that.”

Molumby made it four goals for the season in the Championship, with Albion perched just outside the play-off positions after the weekend’s victory, a goal firmly in the midfielder’s sights. “It’s massive,” Molumby admitted.

“It keeps us alive and we’re fighting and look we’re buzzing. It was a much-needed win it’s been a tough little period we all thought they were brilliant even at half-time the fans were cheering us in at 1-0 down and they were unbelievable so hats off to them.

“We need to go on our little run again we had it when the gaffer first came in. We won 4/5 games in a row and that’s what we need to do now and I’m fully confident we’re able to do that.”

Head coach Corberan has been equally impressed with Molumby’s application, with the former Brighton & Hove Albion, Preston North End and Millwall man taking a pain-killing injection which allowed him to start on Saturday. “He adds a lot of value,” Corberan told BBC WM.

“Yesterday he couldn’t complete the training because he injured his ankle and today with inflammation. He had the personality to play and when you have a player like this the value they can give you is huge.

“The commitment that he has with himself, with the club, with the team, he was playing today with a lot of pain in the ankle. He was having to have an injection to play today, yesterday he couldn’t complete training, only half, but he is going to make a career because he has the determination to make it.

"Some people with adversity – they give up. And Molumby is not going to do that."
