Former West Brom and Cardiff City star commits to dramatic career change

Former West Bromwich Albion, Stoke City and Cardiff City attacker Peter Odemwingie has qualified as a professional golfer.
The 65-time Nigeria international called time on his footballing career upon departing Indonesian outfit Medura United in 2018. Now, six years on, Odemwingie has officially earned his Professional Golfers’ Association (PGA) membership to kick-start a new career.

“I’m really proud of myself and all of my friends that are graduating,” Odemwingie said after attaining his PGA membership. “It’s a long journey, I fell in love with the game and played lots of pro-ams as an amateur.
“I’m coming from a football background, I had a decent level career in a group sport. Now it’s a different, sometimes you can be lonely in golf - just you and your caddie - but the PGA itself feels like a family.
“The opportunity came where my game became as good as an average pro would be. I passed the playing ability test, I was accepted to the programme. We learn so many life skills that at my age will still be very beneficial,” Odemwingie continued.
