Former Chelsea captain among favourites to replace under fire West Brom boss Steve Bruce

West Bromwich Albion have had a poor start to the season, winning just one of their opening 12 Championship games.

The Baggies fell to a 1-0 defeat to Preston North End on Wednesday evening - their fifth of the campaign - which saw them drop into the relegation zone.

Albion’s poor form under Steve Bruce had led to speculation as to whether he will oversee the club for their league fixture against Luton Town on Saturday.

The 61-year-old has won just eight of his 31 games in charge of the Baggies in all competitions and believes he is on the ‘right course’ to turn things around at the Hawthorns.

“We’ve not got the results we’ve needed, but I still think we’re on the right course,” he told the media following Wednesday’s loss to Preston.

“I still think we can make a challenge of trying to get up to where we want to be, which is of course around the play-off places.

“I’m determined to see it through.”

With Albion’s continued poor form and their expectation of being in contention for promotion this season, it’s no surprise Bruce is under fire.

If the Baggies decide the 61-year-old is no longer the right man to lead the club, we’ve looked ahead at who the favourites are to replace him.

Who is favourite for the job?

As per Bookmakers, former Aston Villa and Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Rob Edwards is the favourite to be the next Albion manager and is priced at 2/1.

Ex-Burnley boss Sean Dyche can be backed at 3/1, while Scott Parker is at 9/2.

Next is Chris Wilder (5/1) and then John Terry at a price of 11/2.

Other names being mentioned include Roy Keane, Mick McCarthy, Michael Carrick and Slavisa Jokanovic.

Terry’s first step into management?

The former Chelsea captain is yet to dip his toes into management after retiring from playing in October 2018.

His only coaching experience came with Villa between 2018 and 2021 where he was assistant to Dean Smith and helped them gain promotion from the Championship to the Premier League in his first season in the role.

There’s no denying his ability to lead a dressing room having worn the armband for Chelsea for 13 years, winning 16 trophies, including the Champions League in 2012, while captain and one beforehand.

He currently holds a coaching consultancy role with the Blues’ academy, a position the former defender has had since January.
