New West Brom signing Marc Albrighton believes that his late deadline day move was inspired by the ‘ambition’ shown by the club to achieve promotion.

The winger played every game of parent club Leicester City’s Premier League triumph in 2015/16 but has found minutes hard to come by so far this season - only making six league appearances.

Albrighton joins the Baggies on a six-month loan which will see him stay at The Hawthorns until the end of the season, providing vital cover after Matt Phillips was ruled out for the rest of the season. And the winger believes Albion have what it takes to reach the top flight after a two-year absence.

“It’s something I’m really looking forward to,” Albrighton said about the challenge of promotion when speaking to WBA.co.uk. “I think the way the club have turned it around in recent months and that fight and challenge that we’ve got on our hands until the end of the season.

“It’s a club with ambition and one that wants to get back into the Premier League where we should be. If I can help towards that then it’ll be fantastic,” he added.

It will only be the second time that the experienced midfielder has played in the Championship, with him previously taken to the second tier stage whilst on loan at Wigan Athletic in 2014. But the prospect of the challenging division is one that Albrighton will relish.

“It excites me,” Albrighton said. “Leicester are a fantastic club and I’ve really enjoyed my time there, but I’ve gone through a spell of not playing regular football and I think it’s something I’ve not dealt with well.

“It’s been a rollercoaster with getting the deal done and knowing whether it’s on or off. I feel like I want a new challenge and I want to come in here and show people that I can still play at a good level and if we can get over the line and get promotion then it’ll be fantastic.

“I’ve got kids that when Saturday comes, want to be watching me play and they’ve not been able to do that recently. I’d love to go out there and play as much as I can, I’ve got friends who are Albion fans so they’ll be very pleased when this finally gets released, it’s just exciting and something I look forward to.”

Albion have enjoyed a fruitful start to life under manager Carlos Corberan who has transformed the side from Championship relegation battlers to play-off candidates. And Albrighton is keen to learn from the Spaniard during his temporary switch.

“I’ve done my research,” Albrighton said. “I know how West Brom play and it definitely suits me, it’s a given for me to come in and work hard and if my quality on the ball is there as well then it’s going to be a recipe for success.

“I like to lead by example with my performances rather than going around shouting the odds at everyone, but I like to train hard and put everything into that. With me not playing many games at Leicester, training was my game time so I want to make the most of that.”
