West Bromwich Albion were knocked out of the Carabao Cup at the second round stage for the second successive season on Tuesday evening as they fell to a 1-0 defeat to League One side, Derby County.

Manager Steve Bruce did make a host of changes going into the game - 10 in total - but the squad put out was still more than capable of getting the job done against a team from a lower division.

It’s evident that the league cup isn’t exactly high up the list of priorities for Albion this year but it’s never nice to be on the wrong end of a result, especially when it was widely thought of as a decent opportunity to progress.

That mindset appears to be reflected across the fanbase too with many seemingly not bothered at all about Tuesday’s result whereas others are frustrated with the ‘non performance’ that was on display against the Rams.

Here’s a snippet of some of the reaction following last night’s game.

What the fans have been saying

@stevotop: “Embarrassing shambles of a non performance. So many poor games by the old guard and the youngsters against such a poor team. What a waste of a night ! See you at Huddersfield then ! #WBA #Shambles”

@lukestokes84: “What baggies fans need to do is direct negativity and unhappiness at the owner Lai he is the reason the squad is weaker than needed. But some of the comments I see at times it’s like ppl don’t want to be happy - JL case in point.”

@jack_wba1878: “I become bothered if we play like that on Saturday. Simply shows how awful how squad depth is #wba”

@J_Phillips1994: “Haven’t got the squad for cup competitions. U23’s need loaning out before anything is asked of them first time wise. Reality is we’ve played 5 and only lost 1 & just put 5 past Hull. Cheer up. #WBA”

@Albionweststand: “Happy clappers be like “let’s concentrate on the league” but let’s be real, that was extremely shocking.”

@islaxjackson: “Maybe put to bed about the kids. Not even close to making an impact on the first team sadly. Not many days to bring in reinforcements Baggies... Onwards and upwards... #wba”

@tiptonjameswba: “What ya expect with he made like 10 changes and brought the big boys on abit too late not a patch on hull city’s performance Saturday shocking Bruce out never wanted him anyway most fans hate him”

@jonpog: “Had the chances again, couldn’t finish them. Doesn’t take a rocket scientist to work out the problem, if Lai or whoever owns us don’t address this it’ll be yet another year of being the not so nearly men. #LaiOut #wba”
