West Bromwich Albion striker Daryl Dike will undergo surgery on a full rupture of his right Achilles tendon, a club statement announced on Tuesday.

The USA international suffered the serious injury during the 2-1 victory at Stoke City on April 15 and is now set for an extended period on the sidelines.

“A scan has since confirmed surgery is required to repair a full rupture, after which he will begin rehabilitation,” a statement from West Brom said.

“Albion’s medical and sports since teams will provide Dike with all the support he requires to return to full fitness later this year.

“Dike will be sidelined for six to nine months.”

Having netted seven goals in 23 Championship appearances, including an impressive brace against Middlesbrough, the 22-year-old was having a good season.

Dike’s campaign is now over, though, as he suffers yet another injury setback. It’s the second serious problem he’s had following a thigh issue last summer.
