West Brom saw Cedric Kipre leave the club for nothing as his move to Stade de Reims was confirmed.
The 27-year-old was offered a new contract by the Baggies but things went quiet and now his future has been decided. He has moved back to France, where he has joined a side that finished ninth last season.
"Thank you," Kipre wrote on Instagram earlier in the week.
"As I say goodbye to you all, I wanted to show my gratitude for the support you’ve shown me throughout my time here. It has been a journey filled with many ups and downs, but I’m leaving with great memories.
"To my teammates, the staff, to the club and to the fans, thanks for being a part of my journey and allowing me to make the best out of this opportunity. Ced."
In response to Kipre's departure, WBA have signed Paddy McNair on a loan deal until January. The 29-year-old has joined San Diego FC, a new team that will join the MLS in 2025, but will spend the first six months of his contract, playing on loan at the Hawthorns.
West Brom in an ideal world would have got a fee for Kipre, as last season he proved his worth. He returned from a loan spell from Cardiff City to become their first choice centre-back, and it will be interesting to see how WBA fare in his absence.
Kipre might not be the only player that leaves this summer, but at least they might get a fee for the likes of Okay Yokuslu and Brandon Thomas-Asante. Yokuslu is wanted by Hull City and Trabzonspor, whilst BTA is subject of interest from Southampton. Both have only one year remaining on their current deals and so there is a decision to be made over their futures.
In the mean time, it's interesting to see how West Brom are viewed at by those outside of the club, and right now they have a squad worth of £39.6m according to TransferMarkt. Here we take a look at how that compares against the likes of Swansea City, Watford, QPR and the other 20 teams in the division.
