Championship table based ONLY on 2022 results: West Brom relegated, Huddersfield champions, Derby safe

West Bromwich Albion would be facing relegation to League One for the first time in over 30 years whilst Birmingham City would retain their Championship status by the skin of the teeth.

That’s the outcome fans would be looking at if the season started at the beginning of 2022 rather than back in August.

Albion have picked up just one victory in this calendar year, a 3-0 win over the divisions bottom club Peterborough United under former manager Valerien Ismael.

Ismael himself was given the boot after results were deemed not good enough yet his replacement Steve Bruce has fared even worse of late, picking up just one point from his opening five games.

Birmingham City on the other hand have had a more successful year to date but only barely.

Good results against Luton Town and Stoke City were backed up with poor ones against Huddersfield Town and Reading. A tale of inconsistency all too familiar at St Andrew’s.

Lee Bowyer hasn’t been helped by a side ravaged with injuries though and that is an unfortunate scenario that is at least well understood among the fanbase.
