Championship expected goals table: How West Brom compare to Burnley, Sheffield United and rivals - gallery

West Brom rank surprisingly high in terms of their Expected Goals compared to other Championship sides, including Sheffield United and Burnley.

Despite their recent turnaround in form, West Bromwich Albion have still had a topsy-turvy campaign. Whether it be fighting for relegation at the beginning or chasing playoffs as they are now, it’s been an eventful season for The Hawthorns faithful. And with the Championship season reaching its tail-end, it’ll be interesting to see where the Baggies finish.

One way to see whether Albion have been performing in terms of their attacking output is to check their Expected Goals value. According to StatsBomb, ‘Expected Goals (xG) is a metric designed to measure the probability of a shot resulting in a goal. An xG model uses historical information from thousands of shots with similar characteristics to estimate the likelihood of a goal on a scale between 0 and 1.’

So with that said, here’s where West Brom rank amongst their second-tier rivals for xG according to FotMob.
