West Bromwich Albion manager Carlos Corberan has broken his silence after being linked heavily with the vacant Leeds United job, saying ‘it’s time to reinforce our goals’. Eager to put an immediate end to the speculation surrounding the Spaniard’s future, West Brom decided to offer Corberan an improved contract after just three months at The Hawthorns, and he accepted.

On Tuesday evening, the 39-year-old put pen to paper on a new deal running to the end of the 2026-27 season, crushing any and all links to managerial jobs elsewhere. Corberan had been the bookies’ favourite to take over at Leeds after Jesse Marsch was relieved of his duties at the start of the week, but he is determined to continue the job he has started in B71.

Posting to social media in reaction, Corberan said: “Since my appointment at @WBA, I’ve done my best to help the club progress and now it is time to reinforce our goals. Very happy to extend our commitment. Looking forward to building on the togetherness, passion, work ethic and hunger that’s driving us on our current challenge.”

Having worked extensively with Leeds in the past, with the U23 squad between 2017 and 2020, Corberan has already established a strong relationship with the Lilywhites. Many thought he would be a brilliant fit to help the Yorkshire side survive a relegation battle and push on, given he has won 11 of his 16 games since taking charge of West Brom in October.

The ex-Huddersfield Town boss is keen to keep his word to the Baggies, however, as they progress toward their own goal of being promoted to the Premier League. Corberan so nearly accomplished just that with the Terriers but was unfortunate to lose to Nottingham Forest in the playoff final. Now, he wants to achieve a lifetime ambition of guiding a team to the English top tier.
