It’s been reported that West Brom have received a bid for one of their key players - with not many days left to source a replacement.

West Brom have reportedly turned down a £2m transfer offer from Championship rivals Stoke City for star striker Brandon Thomas-Asante.

Published in Sky Sports' transfer live blog, they report that the Potters have made a £2m bid which has been rejected. It is said that Baggies believe that the offer was 'way below market' value and now Stoke considering making another offer whilst other clubs monitor the situation.

West Brom signed Thomas-Asante for a reported £300,000 from Salford City back in August 2022, and even £2m would have represented a significant profit but West Brom cannot afford to lose one of their leading players this season. It is said by the Express & Star that they ‘do not want to sell’ but may have to consider an offer should it make financial sense.

Sunday Mirror Sports journalist Darren Witcoop meanwhile said: “West Brom fighting to keep brandon Thomas-Asante. Stoke preparing to make £2.5m bid after an initial offer knocked back.”

The 24-year-old has scored two goals in two games following efforts against Leeds United and Middlesbrough, and are short in the strikers department following a long-term injury to Daryl Dike. Thomas-Asante started as the sole striker in the win against Middlesbrough, and was replaced by summer signing Josh Maja.

Thomas-Asante had a breakout campaign with West Brom last season, and got eight goals in 34 appearances across the Championship and the Carabao Cup.

Maja and Jeremy Sarimento are West Brom's only first-team signings this summer and any sale of Thomas-Asante would make it difficult for them to source a replacement at such short notice. West Brom have already tried to cut their losses on Karlan Grant who has been loaned to Cardiff City for the season, and at times Carlos Corberan has had to play without a recognised striker.

Should Stoke meet the valuation of Thomas-Asante then the money received would be reinvested back into the first-team, despite the clubs desire to reduce the wage bill. The transfer deadline is at Friday, September 1, at 11.00 pm.
