Wycombe Wanderers leading League One race for West Brom defender as Leicester City blow emerges

West Brom are expected to let promising centre-back Taylor leave before tonight’s 11pm transfer deadline and Wycombe have emerged as likely suitors.
Our sister publication, Express & Star, reports the Chairboys are “leading the race” to sign Taylor on a temporary basis. Several League One clubs are interested in taking the defender for the campaign but talks with Wycombe are already at an advanced stage.

Hide AdTaylor is familiar with the English third tier having twice been loaned out at that level. The 21-year-old played seven times for Bolton Wanderers during the second half of last season and racked up an impressive 49 appearances across all competitions for Cheltenham Town during the 2022/23 term.

Although highly rated by Albion, it’s understood Taylor would be unlikely to gain any consistent minutes under Carlos Corberan this season. The experienced Kyle Bartley and Semi Ajayi have been the regular pairing so far this term, while versatile summer signing Torbjorn Heggem has been a huge success at left-back.
Taylor’s move to Wycombe is incomplete as it stands and so his destination could change, but a switch to Adams Park is growing increasingly likely. The Burnley-born defender has made 10 senior appearances for West Brom since breaking through the academy.
Oxford United beat West Brom to signing
In other transfer news on deadline day, Oxford United are set to seal the loan signing of Leicester City centre-half Ben Nelson. Football Insider reports the deal is fully agreed for the 20-year-old to join the Us until the end of the season.
