A priority Wolves target and a player of interest to Chelsea has made a hint over a potential Premier League transfer.

Wolverhampton Wanderers reportedly remain in the equation to sign Borussia Monchengladbach defender Nico Elvedi despite speculation cooling over recent weeks.

The Old Gold are still on the hunt for a Maximilian Kilman replacement after the former captain left Molineux for West Ham United in a £40 million deal. Elvedi, who has a €10 million (£8.4 million) release clause available to activate until July 31, is among those on the shortlist.

Sport Witness reports Wolves are still considering making a swoop for Elvedi, who has been a target for around a year. Everton have been linked in the past, too, while it was reported widely in January that Chelsea were keen due to the defender’s bargain release clause.

Elvedi, who joined Gladbach in 2015 from FC Zurich, has racked up an impressive 303 appearances, 16 goals and nine assists over the past nine seasons. Predominantly a centre-back but also capable of filling in at right-back, the 27-year-old is proven in the German top tier and boasts heaps of experience.

The 53-time Switzerland international is also willing to move to Wolves as it’s reached the point in his career when a fresh challenge is desirable. “If something comes up, I’ll look at it,“ Elvedi told German publication Wetterauer Zeitungover the weekend.

“Of course, after nine years you start to think about whether something new would be good. It has to be something interesting that makes sense. The transfer window is open until August 31st, something can always happen before then,” Elvedi continued.
