Wolverhampton Wanderers are set to bag several million from a deadline day sale.

Wolves winger Daniel Podence is reportedly closing in on a transfer to Saudi Pro League club Al-Shabab FC.

The Portuguese attacker was expected to be kept by the Old Gold with no teams offering suitable terms but a breakthrough has been found on the final day. With the summer window set to slam shut tonight, it’s a race against time but the move is expected to be completed.

This is according to The Telegraph, with a very recent report suggesting Wolves have accepted an offer of £5 million from Al-Shabab. It’s stated that Wanderers will benefit from a significant sell-on clause, a sweetener that has helped the Old Gold agree to the sale.

Head coach Gary O’Neil admitted only two days ago - after the 2-0 Carabao Cup win over Burnley - that Podence was set to stay at the club. But anything can happen late in the transfer window, and it seems the 28-year-old will seal a move away after all.

“The transfer window hasn’t gone quite as we’d have liked so far, but Daniel [Podence], Guedes, Chiquinho have been great,” the head coach admitted to Express & Star after the Burnley clash. “I expect Guedes and Podence to be here after the window,” O’Neil went on to say.

The head coach’s words have aged like milk, but that’s the unpredictable nature of the transfer market for you. It’s understood Wolves are still trying to clinch a couple of incoming deals before the 11pm deadline but nothing is close. Additions on the wing and in central defence are a priority.
