West Brom ‘shake hands’ with Europa League club as €1.6m transfer imminent

West Bromwich Albion have reportedly reached an agreement with Trabzonspor over the sale of defensive midfielder Okay Yokuslu after several weeks of staggered negotiations.
Sports Digitale reports a fee of €1.6 million (£1.35 million) has been agreed between West Brom and Trabzonspor for Yokuslu, while 61 Saat claims “both clubs have shaken hands” to complete the transfer.

Hide AdThe Turkey international is set to travel to his home nation to finalise the formalities of the deal, with an announcement likely in the next 48 hours. It’s a major blow for West Brom but the player was very keen on the move.
This was also the Baggies’ last opportunity to gain any significant transfer fee as Yokuslu’s contract was set to expire next June. From January, clubs could have spoken to the midfielder about signing him for free.

Yokuslu, key to West Brom qualifying for the Championship play-offs last season, missed just two league matches all campaign. Albion would’ve found it very difficult to achieve a top-six finish if it wasn’t for the 30-year-old’s efforts at the base of midfield.
Carlos Corberan will now have to make do without Yokuslu, however, as West Brom head into the 2024/25 season with similar ambitions.
