Ipswich Town are set to beat Wolverhampton Wanderers to the signing of Burnley defender Dara O’Shea.

The Tractor Boys are reportedly set to hijack Wolves’ attempt to sign the Republic of Ireland international.

A report from talkSPORT states Ipswich are now “in the box seat” to seal a move for O’Shea after Wolves hit a stumbling block in negotiations with Burnley. It’s claimed that a gap in valuation remains between Wanderers and the Clarets.

Wolves saw a £13 million bid rejected for O’Shea earlier this week, with Burnley holding out for £15 million instead. Brentford have also held advanced talks over a potential deal but Ipswich have swooped in to gazump everyone and match Burnley’s asking price.

It was thought that, before Ipswich joined the race, O’Shea was holding out for a move to Wolves. This is despite the defender being West Bromwich Albion academy product with 107 appearances. He’s also a former captain of the Baggies.

Birmingham World understands West Brom will benefit if Burnley let O’Shea depart as a 20 per cent sell-on clause was inserted into the defender’s departure 13 months ago. If the fee ends up being the reported £15 million, Albion will receive £1.6 million - based on the £8 million profit Scott Parker’s side would be making.

The 25-year-old would add immediate depth and experience for whoever he signs for as he has 61 Premier League appearances to his name. O’Shea, who has 26 caps for Ireland since his debut in October 2020, has also featured 70 times in the Sky Bet Championship.
