A Birmingham City star is likely on the move with several Premier League clubs keen.

Ipswich Town have reportedly taken the lead in the race to sign Birmingham City wonderkid Jordan James this summer.

The Tractor Boys are keen to continue their strong start to the transfer window as they seek to build a squad capable of surviving relegation from the Premier League.

Several other English top-flight clubs are interested in James and UEFA Europa League winners Atalanta, who twice bid in January, remain in the picture. But, despite the opportunity to play Champions League football in Italy arising, HITC reports Ipswich are James’ likeliest destination as it stands.

It’s claimed Kieran McKenna’s side have moved ahead of Brighton & Hove Albion, Brentford, Leicester City and Southampton in the battle to sign the Wales international. Birmingham are holding out for upwards of £10 million for their prized youngster but Ipswich have the cash to splash.

It’s understood that James wants to leave St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park following Blues’ relegation to League One. Even if Birmingham had stayed up, the Welshman was still keen to move onto pastures new as his vast quality and potential are undoubtedly at a higher level.

Already with 11 senior caps for Wales, James scored eight goals in 42 Championship appearances last campaign. The 20-year-old played 33 times the season previous, too, and has proven his ability to play in an array of midfield roles.

James’ versatility is something all of his potential suitors are keen on. His reliability and promising lack of injuries are also bonuses, though the biggest attraction is the potential he has to unlock.
