Former West Brom and Sheffield United manager ‘in talks’ over surprise new job after 20-month hiatus

Steve Bruce is reportedly in talks to become the next manager of the Jamaican national team, 20 months after being relieved of his duties at West Bromwich Albion.
It was thought the 63-year-old was done with coaching but it appears he’s in contention to replace Heimir Hallgrimsson, who resigned from the Reggae Boyz at the end of last month.

Hide AdDaily Mail reports Bruce has already held talks with officials from Jamaica ahead of a potential move. It’s claimed a decision will be made in the next 10 days, with the ex-Manchester United man considered a “serious contender”.
Bruce has coached over 1,000 matches at 12 clubs throughout his 26-year management career, albeit with a recent break of nearly two seasons. Before West Brom, he led Newcastle United, Sheffield Wednesday, Aston Villa, Hull City, Sunderland, Birmingham City, Crystal Palace, Wigan Athletic, Huddersfield Town and Sheffield United.
Jamaica are looking to bounce back after a mightily disappointing Copa America during which they suffered three straight defeats. A 3-0 loss to Venezuela was the nail in the coffin for Hallgrimsson and the Carribean nation are seeking fresh ideas.

It awaits to be seen if Bruce would be the right appointment but he’s certainly got the passion and determination to respond to his own previous failures, notably at West Brom. The Baggies were starting at a shock Championship relegation battle when Bruce left – he’ll be hoping for a better return in his next job.
