Birmingham City have completed their first signing of transfer deadline day, pinching Rangers of a forward.

Blues have announced the acquisition of Rangers winger Scott Wright on a permanent deal to begin what’s expected to be an active Friday.

The 27-year-old, who leaves Rangers as a one-time Scottish Premiership champion, has put pen to paper on a three-year contract. Although the fee is undisclosed, it’s understood Birmingham have paid around £300,000 to land the attacker, who had just 11 months left on his previous deal.

Wright becomes the second player to swap Ibrox Stadium for St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park this summer, after central defender Ben Davies joined on a season-long loan with an option to buy. The former Scotland Under-21 international never became a regular starter for the Gers but was in the XI to face Eintracht Frankfurt in the 2022 UEFA Europa League final.

An academy product of Aberdeen, Wright played 79 times for the Dons before sealing his Rangers transfer in 2020. The winger racked up 120 appearances for the Light Blues, contributing 12 goals and seven assists in that time. He was more of a backup figure for much of his time at Ibrox but often showed glimmers of real quality.
