Although expected to be third choice behind Nick Pope and Odysseas Vlachodimos, Ruddy will undoubtedly relish his return to the big time to round off a successful career.
Reacting to his Newcastle move, Ruddy said: "This is a massive club and it's a massive opportunity, so I'm really excited to get started. It was an opportunity I couldn't turn down. It's a huge, huge club which is only going one way and to be a part of that, however big or small, is going to be very pleasing and very exciting.”
Birmingham offered Ruddy a new contract in the hope he would continue at St Andrew’s @ Knighthead Park, but the 37-year-old understandably welcomed the move to St. James’ Park with open arms. Ruddy played 44 times for Blues last term, conceding 62 goals but keeping 11 clean sheets.
