Aston Villa are close to making a significant sale to Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers are in talks with Newcastle United over a transfer.

Unai Emery’s concerns over Villa meeting the Premier League’s profit and sustainability regulations will be eased by the imminent £19 million sale of Omari Kellyman to Chelsea.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder is understood to be undergoing his medical at Chelsea today, June 24, ahead of a permanent transfer. Kellyman, whose mere six senior appearances have all been substitute cameos, is expected to put pen to paper on a five-year contract with the option for a further 12 months.

This deal is set to coincide with - but is separate to - Villa’s acquisition of Chelsea left-back Ian Maatsen. The Netherlands international, a recent Champions League final who spent the second half of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund, is set to complete a £37.5 million move to Villa Park.

Maatsen underwent his medical tests at the Dutch national team camp in Germany at the weekend and he will sign a six-year agreement. Emery will be delighted as the left side of defence would have otherwise soon been a problem area. Alex Moreno is eyeing a return to Spain and Lucas Digne is shifting out of his prime years.

Wolves and Newcastle in transfer talks

In other Premier League transfer news, Villa’s local rivals, Wolves, are in discussions with Newcastle. The Old Gold are attempting to fend off interest from the Magpies in central defender and captain Max Kilman, first rejecting a player-plus-cash offer over the weekend.

Newcastle are expected to return with a new bid soon as they aim to bolster their defensive options, while West Ham United remain in the picture. The Hammers, directed by new boss Julen Lopetegui, saw a £25 million swoop rebuffed by Wolves a few days ago. Improved terms are set to be offered this week.
