An agreement has been reached with Chelsea for a Crystal Palace and Wolverhampton Wanderers target to seal a late move.

Chelsea defender Trevoh Chalobah is reportedly on his way to Crystal Palace, who have fought away plenty of English top flight competition to acquire his signature.

It was reported as recently as Friday morning that Wolves were interested in signing Chalobah but Premier League rivals Palace have swooped in at the 11th hour. Red Bull Leipzig and Real Sociedad were also monitoring the player’s situation after it became apparent he wasn’t part of Enzo Maresca’s plans.

The Athletic reports Chalobah will join the Eagles on a straight season-long loan. A fee will be paid but there’s no option or obligation to buy. Wolves were keen on the 25-year-old but no deal ever progressed. Palace will be the centre-back’s fourth loan destination of his career after spells at Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town and FC Lorient.

Chalobah has become a more regular starter for Chelsea throughout the past two or three campaigns but the new head coach seemingly prefers the likes of Levi Colwill, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Axel Disasi and Benoit Badisashile. All in all, Chalobah, who has a current market value of £11 million as per Transfermarkt, has made 80 senior appearances for the Blues.

Meanwhile, it’s been claimed by BBC Sport that Wolves discussed the possibility of signing Diego Carlos from Aston Villa before turning away. The Brazilian, who cost Unai Emery’s side £26 million two summers ago, is expected to remain at Villa Park despite speculation.

Wolves are expected to continue their search for a new centre-back, with several available options to be weighed up before tonight’s 11pm deadline. With just a few hours remaining, however, a replacement for Maximilian Kilman is looking increasingly unlikely.
