It’s no secret that football supporters in the West Midlands are extremely passionate.

Aston Villa, Blues, West Brom and Wolves fans follow their clubs up and down the country, week in, week out, win or lose.

The region’s clubs have a proud history and tradition, but in a city as big as Birmingham, there will obviously be fans of many different clubs.

Using local Google Search data, OLBG (Online Betting Guide) has identified which are the favourite teams in the UK and the results may surprise you for Birmingham.

What does the research show?

With many local teams in the city and wider region, do they stay loyal to their local teams or look further afield for someone to support?

The data was collected by searches for matches, shirts, scores and tickets.

Surprisingly, the majority (38%) of Birmingham-based fans actually support Liverpool.

The Reds are the most successful team in English football, with 19 league titles and six European cups to their name.

Villa’s manager Steven Gerrard is of course also a huge Liverpool legend, which could be another reason for Liverpool having a lot of support in Birmingham.

Aston Villa is the second most popular team in Birmingham according to the study, with 16% of Birmingham footie fans standing behind the local team.

Birmingham City is 4th most popular with 7.55% of fans supporting them, behind London based Chelsea with 10% supporting the west London team.

The Baggies are 11th in the rankings with just 0.009% of local midlanders supporting the team, according to the research.
