Aston Villa are reportedly set to suffer disappointment in their attempt to sign Manchester City and England star Kalvin Phillips.

The England midfielder was believed to be one of Unai Emery’s main transfer targets as the Spaniard looks to build on the unquestionable progress his side have made since he was named as successor to Steven Gerrard earlier this season. There has been speculation Phillips could be allowed to leave the current Premier League leaders this summer after enduring an underwhelming first season at the Etihad Stadium.

However, Football Insider has now revealed the former Leeds United star is keen to stay at City, who have reportedly told Phillips ‘better things are expected’ of him during his second season at the club. However, former Villa star Jack Grealish is named as an example to follow for his England team-mate after he struggled during his maiden campaign working under City boss Pep Guardiola.

Valencia keen to move for Wolves star

Wolverhampton Wanderers winger Pablo Sarabia has been linked with a return to Spain just four months after moving to Molineux in a cut-price deal from Paris Saint-Germain.

The 26-times capped Spain international has scored one goal in 12 appearances for Julen Lopetegui’s side but has remained as an unused substitute in recent wins over Aston Villa and Crystal Palace and the 6-0 defeat at Brighton and Hove Albion.

Spanish outlet Fichajes have reported Sarabia arrived at Wolves as ‘an important player’ but has lost his prominence in Lopetegui’s squad. That has led to Valencia opting to ‘show their interest’ in taking ‘advantage’ of his situation by offering the winger a chance to return to Spain for the first time since he left Sevilla to join PSG in a £14m deal during the summer of 2019.
