The opening weekend of the 2023/24 Premier League season was an exhilarating one as every game had goals and just four out of the 20 teams failed to score.

From Newcastle United thrashing Aston Villa 5-1 to a heated 1-1 contest between Chelsea and Liverpool, there were plenty of surprises along the way for fans up and down the country.

It is of course still very early on in the campaign for supporters to get too excited or deflated depending on their side’s results, but there has been a good indication of how things could shape up for the next few matches.

In line with that, there were some standout performers in the opening encounters of 2023/24, many of whom gained strong WhoScored ratings for their efforts.
