Premier League team of the week dominated by Aston Villa, Brighton, Arsenal & West Ham - gallery

Here’s how the Premier League team of the week shapes up for the weekend of August 18-21.

The second weekend of the 2023/24 Premier League campaign brought plenty of entertainment, with 27 goals scored across the nine games played.

In the end, the back of the net was hit three times per match on average during the second gameweek and there were some shock results at both ends of the table.

Tottenham Hotspur eased past Manchester United on Ange Postecoglou’s home debut, while a 10-men West Ham United side beat rivals Chelsea by three goals to one.

Aston Villa put their opening day woes behind them with a 4-0 thrashing of Everton, whereas Brighton & Hove Albion earned a second successive 4-1 victory as they swept aside Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Nottingham Forest got their first win of the season as they beat Sheffield United on Friday evening but AFC Bournemouth will have to wait for three points after losing 3-1 to Liverpool at Anfield.

Meanwhile, Brentford beat fellow London side Fulham 3-0, Manchester City edged past Newcastle United with a 1-0 win at the Etihad Stadium and Arsenal won at Crystal Palace by the same scoreline.

So many players impressed during the weekend just gone that it would be tricky to pick just 11 to form a team of the week. Thankfully, though, WhoScored’s player rating system does that job for us.

Flick through the pages to see gameweek two’s best performers, as well as their individual ratings.
