The Premier League’s sixth matchweek of the season certainly didn’t disappoint as Aston Villa stunned Chelsea at Stamford Bridge and Newcastle United recorded a record victory.
What may disappoint or surprise, however, is the choices made by Garth Crooks in his latest team of the week column for BBC Sport – particularly surrounding Newcastle.
The Magpies absolutely thrashed Sheffield United by eight goals to nil on Sunday afternoon with eight separate goalscorers, but Crooks has included just two in his 11-man squad.
There were plenty of others that impressed across the division - and Crooks has managed to squeeze in a Villa player - but he probably should’ve included some extra Newcastle men.
Nonetheless, the choices made certainly create a debate. With that in mind, here are the 11 players Crooks has gone with, including six different clubs.
1. Emiliano Martinez
Crooks believes Martinez’s numerous key saves were the difference for Villa in the 1-0 win at Chelsea.
2. Kyle Walker
Crooks thinks Walker’s desire to get in behind was impressive – as was his touch and lay-off for Foden’s goal vs Nottingham Forest.
3. James Tarkowski
Crooks reckons the crisis at Everton can be averted if Tarkowski can play as he did at Brentford every week.
4. Jonny Evans
Crooks has outlined the 35-year-old as Man Utd’s “star performer” in the 1-0 win at Burnley.
