Jude Bellingham has become the most expensive British footballer of all time following his record-breaking move to Real Madrid.
The Stourbridge-born star completed his move to the Spanish capital last week, in a deal worth more than £100 million.
Bellingham becomes the latest player from the West Midlands region to move to another club for big money, with Jack Grealish joining Manchester City from Aston Villa in 2021 for a similar price tag.
With this in mind, we’ve decided to take a look at the top transfers of all time involving players from Birmingham and the wider region.
Here are the top 10 most expensive footballers from Birmingham and the West Midlands
1. Jude Bellingham to Real Madrid
Bellingham’s recod-breaking move is unsurprisingly number one on the list. The Stourbridge-born star has become the most expensive British footballer of all time following his £115 move from Borussia Dortmund to Madrid
2. Jack Grealish to Manchester City
Before Bellingham, another local lad broke the British transfer record. Grealish’s move from Aston Villa to Man City was worth £100 million, making the Solihull-born treble winner the second most expensive British player of all time. This of course means the two most expensive British footballers ever are both from Birmingham and the West Midlands
3. Joleon Lescott to Manchester City
Lescott made a big money move to the Etihad stadium in 2009, joining the club for a fee in the region of £22 million from Wolves. The Birmingham-born centre half went on to have a very successful career in Manchester, winning the league title and FA Cup
4. James Maddison to Leicester City
Coventry-born Maddison joined Leicester from Norwich City for an undisclosed fee thought to be around £20 million in 2018 after impressive performances in the Championship. He could leave for double that fee in the coming weeks as a move away from Leicester is very much on the cards following their relegation to the Championship
