Manchester United are plotting a double swoop for Aston Villa and Wolves stars Ezri Konsa and Max Kilman.

Kilman has been ‘added’ to the Red Devils shortlist for the summer. United are in need of defensive reinforcements following a spate of injuries and could look to Wolves’ club captain to address their issues.

The 26-year-old was the subject of interest from Napoli and Spurs last summer, but Wolves held firm on their reported £40m transfer value. Kilman remained at the club, signing a new contract and has played 36 games in all competitions this term.

Despite his string of good displays, former Birmingham City and Watford striker Troy Deeney cast doubts over Kilman’s ability, however. He believes that whilst Kilman is a good player, he should not be a priority for Erik ten Hag and that Man United should look elsewhere in the summer.

"Playing for Wolves and playing for Man United are two different things,” said Deeney on talkSPORT

“If you're saying there's a shortlist, hopefully, he's like number five and there's four ready-made that they go for.

"But if he gets it, fair play to the boy! Same as Harry. He's got his move and he's done really well."

"I do like Max Kilman I just think there's a level that people possibly can't get to. I could be wrong!"

United have remained in the Midlands for their next target too with Aston Villa star Ezri Konsa also on their shortlist. Football Transfers say that they could make a move for him having monitored him last summer.

The club currently sixth in the Premier League and behind Villa in the race for a Champions League spot want an emphasis on young, homegrown talent after Sir Jim Ratcliffe's arrival at Old Trafford.

Konsa has a market value of £30m on TransferMarkt but they could hold out for a much bigger price given how much his stock has gone up and his contract status. He made his debut for England back in March and signed a new five-year contract in September where he doubled his wages. It is accepted by United that the valuation has gone up significantly higher and there will be difficulties to conclude the move.
