Former Aston Villa defender Antonio Luna has reportedly sealed a transfer to a top-tier team after over three months as a free agent.

Luna is set to join Romanian SuperLiga outfit Dinamo Bucharest, concluding a 105-day search for a new club.

The 33-year-old, who had a two-year spell with Villa between 2013 and 2015, has been a free agent since his release from Greek Super League side Volos NPS. Luna was a regular starter throughout his two seasons in Greece and racked up a career high of 61 appearances for one club – but a new contract wasn’t agreed and his departure followed.

Romanian journalist Emanuel Roşu reports Luna has chosen his next destination having flown over to complete a move to Dinamo Bucharest. It’s stated the Spaniard will become a new Dinamo player “if everything goes well” after his arrival in Romania.

Luna’s brief spell at Villa Park wasn’t exactly memorable as the versatile former Spain Under-20 international donned the claret and blue jersey on just 18 occasions. Signed from Sevilla for around €2 million (£1.67 million) in July 2013, the left-back made 17 Premier League appearances during his first season.

The stay in the West Midlands didn’t last long for Luna as he was loaned to Hellas Verona and Spezia Calcio during the 2014/15 campaign before leaving for Eibar for free in 2015.

If Luna does indeed put pen to paper on a move to Bucharest, he will be joining up with a Dinamo side with just two defeats in their opening 12 league matches this season. In fifth place and five points off league leaders Universitatea Cluj, Dinamo are still in with a chance of winning the title for the first time since 2007.
