The Emirates FA Cup quarter-finals were some of the most extraordinary we have ever seen, with three of the four matches striking up immense drama all around the country.
It all began with a thrilling five-goal tie between West Midlands sides Wolverhampton Wanderers and Coventry City at Molineux on Saturday noon. The Sky Blues ran out 3-2 victors deep in second-half stoppage time, scoring in the 97th and 100th minutes to claim a famous victory.
Manchester City and Newcastle United concluded Saturday's action, with Pep Guardiola's team cruising to a 2-0 win over the Magpies. Portugal international Bernardo Silva scored both goals, rounding off a dominant display at the Etihad Stadium.
Fast forward to Sunday and the tension ramped up once again as Chelsea blew a 2-0 lead against Leicester City, allowing the Foxes to make it 2-2. Axel Disasi scored one of the most unusual own goals you'll ever see but a red card for Callum Doyle gave Chelsea the man advantage. The Blues made it count, scoring twice in added time to win 4-2 and progress.
The best was saved until last as bitter rivals Manchester United and Liverpool met at Old Trafford in the late Sunday kick-off. The Red Devils got off to a perfect start as Scott McTominay took a 10th-minute lead but goals from Alexis Mac Allister and Mohamed Salah put Liverpool in front at half time.
It looked all over but super substitute Antony had other ideas as he scored in the 87th to send the clash to extra time. Harvey Elliott first got Liverpool back ahead in the 105th but Marcus Rashford and Amad Diallo netted in the 112th and 121st to round off a remarkable 4-3 turnaround. Diallo was then sent off for removing his shirt in celebration.
So many players impressed over this historic weekend of FA Cup football that it would be tricky to pick just 11 to form a team of the quarters, but WhoScored's rating system does the hard yards for us. Without further ado, here are the best performers.
1. Andre Onana (WhoScored rating: 8.16)
The goalkeeper made an impressive eight saves and four claims in the 4-3 AET win over bitter rivals Liverpool.
2. Malo Gusto (WhoScored rating: 7.47)
Gusto assisted Noni Madueke’s goal in stoppage time, securing Chelsea’s 4-2 victory over Leicester. The right-back created one other chance and made five tackles.
3. Manuel Akanji (WhoScored rating: 7.52)
Akanji made three tackles and two interceptions to help Guardiola’s side to a clean sheet against Newcastle. He also made 62 passes, the sixth-most on the field.
4. Bobby Thomas (WhoScored rating: 7.58)
Thomas was solid at the back for Coventry in the famous 3-2 win over Wolves, racking up six aerial duel wins, three tackles, five clearances and three interceptions. He also assisted Ellis Simms’ second goal.
