Bookies predicted FA Cup winners as Aston Villa, Wolves and West Brom's chances revealed
A total of 64 clubs enter the FA Cup at the third round stage, but which clubs are predicted to win the whole thing outright?
Aston Villa are the seventh favourites to win the FA Cup this season ahead of the third round draw.
The Villains will find out their opponents this evening (December 2) when the draw takes place on BBC Two at 7.00 pm. All Premier League and Championship clubs enter at this stage, and they will be joined by 12 League One teams, six in League Two and two non-league sides.
Villa’s inter-city rivals Birmingham City have had to get past Sutton United and Blackpool to reach this stage of the competition. Wolves and West Brom also enter at the third round, but aren’t as fancied as Unai Emery’s side.
Villa have been given 16/1 odds to win the cup, with only Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Man United, Newcastle United, and Spurs ahead of them. Wolves are down the pecking order at 50/1, then there’s West Brom at 125/1, and Blues are further out at 175/1.
It’s Birmingham City in League One who have won a major trophy last. Their Carabao Cup success in 2012 is the last time a West Midlands club in English football’s three tiers won a trophy. They’ve competed in two finals, with the last coming 68-years ago in 1956.
The closest a team came to winning the FA Cup was when Aston Villa reached the 2014/15 final, but they lost 4-0 to Arsenal. Their last success in the competition was in 1957, having lifted the cup seven times.
West Brom reached the semi-finals in the 2007/08 season as a Championship side. They are five time winners, and last had their hands on the trophy in 1968 when they beat Everton 1-0.
Wolves reached the quarter-finals last season but lost to Coventry City. They are four time winners and last won the FA Cup in 1960.
