Championship team of the week dominated by Birmingham City, Southampton, Watford and Plymouth Argyle

Here's how the Championship team of the week shapes up for the weekend of December 16-18.

Another round of Championship fixtures drew to a close on Monday night with Birmingham City losing 3-2 to Leicester City.

Stephy Mavididi opened the scoring for the Foxes and then Jordan James equalised, before Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall restored the lead, and then Mavididi added his second. Wales international James who has benefitted from Wayne Rooney's appointment got a second goal but it wasn't enough as Blues fell to another defeat.

Elsewhere in the Championship, Watford recorded a convincing 5-1 victory over Preston North End, despite falling behind. Plymouth Argyle ensured a losing start to life for Leam Richardson as Rotherham United boss as the Pilgrims won 3-2 at Home Park. Southampton like Watford claimed a big win, as they beat Blackburn Rovers 4-0 to continue their impressive unbeaten run. Leeds United and Coventry City couldn't be separated as the two played to a 1-1 draw, and that was the same scoreline for Millwall and Huddersfield Town, as well as West Brom and Stoke City who drew on Sunday.

Other results included a 2-1 win for Middlesbrough over Swansea City, including a goal which came from an indirect free-kick following Carl Rushworth's decision to pick up a pass back in the box. Hull City inflicted a 3-0 defeat on Cardiff City as the Bluebirds' form continues to stutter. Bristol City beat Sunderland courtesy of a Tommy Conway penalty and Sheffield Wednesday came from behind to defeat QPR late on. The Old Farm Derby between Ipswich Town and Norwich City finished in a 2-2 draw in the Saturday lunch-time kick-off.

Choosing a team of the week is such an arduous task, and you'll always have someone that isn't happy. There's different ways of measuring a performance, and it can be against the calibre of opposition, or perhaps something else. Thankfully, WhoScored is one of the best means of determining how well a player has, and this week alongside the EFL they've published the Team of the Week.
