35 Championship players at risk of ban including Birmingham City, West Brom, Southampton and Sheffield Wednesday men - gallery

More than 30 players are ranked high in the Championship yellow cards table and are at risk of suspension.

It's nearly Christmas, and if you're eager to get in the festive spirit early you might hand out some cards, but Championship players won't want to receive them any time soon.

We're 16 games into the Championship season, and the league campaign resumes following the last round of international fixtures up until January when the Africa Cup of Nations start.

The remainder of November and December is going to be a busy period with some midweek matches scheduled, and also several games played over the week before Christmas up until the New Year. The availability of players is going to be key to getting results, and whilst injuries aren't always avoidable, suspensions can be.

The EFL has a rule that should a player get five yellow cards up to the 19 game mark of the season, then they will serve a one-game ban. Missing one game isn't the end of the world, but depending on the importance of the player, you'd ideally have every player in your squad available to your disposal. It's why discipline is key now for both of our Midlands EFL clubs Birmingham City and West Brom, going in to a busy round of fixtures.

The cut-off point is the 19th-game of the season. It means they've got three more rounds of fixtures to get through, starting from this weekend to avoid missing one of those games. For Birmingham City, they've got Sheffield Wednesday at home on Saturday, then Blackburn Rovers away on Wednesday night before hosting managerless Rotherham United.

West Brom meanwhile have Ipswich Town at The Hawthorn's in front of the Sky Sports television cameras, then a trip to South Wales to face Cardiff City next Tuesday, before another game on the television which is against Leicester City on Saturday, December 2.
