Birmingham City manager Lee Bowyer was once again full of praise for Norwich City loanee Onel Hernandez following Blues’ 2-0 defeat to Huddersfield Town, adding that he would ‘love’ to sign him on a permanent deal in the summer.

Hernandez was once again a bright spark for Birmingham on an afternoon that ultimately ended in disappointment.

His class when he had the ball at his feet was on display and it was blatantly obvious just how much the Huddersfield players feared him when in possession.

The Cuban also went closest to scoring for Blues on a day where they struggled to break down a resilient Terriers team.

He showed a quick turn of pace to cut inside before unleashing a fierce strike which was expertly tipped onto the crossbar by Lee Nicholls in the Huddersfield goal.

The 29-year-old looks to visibly be enjoying his football at the moment too and Bowyer is hopeful that a deal can be done in the summer but admits he doesn’t know how possible that scenario is.

“I’d love to get him on a permanent,” he said.

“I think he was very good again today.

“But the likelihood of that happening I don’t know, that’s something that Craig [Gardner] will have to speak to Norwich about - well, now.

“We’ll have to see but I don’t know if that will even be possible.”
