Aston Villa aim to make Matty Cash move amid fresh Kalvin Phillips transfer blow

Aston Villa now have just under two weeks to mull over back-to-back defeats following a recent upturn in form.

Steven Gerrard’s men were beaten narrowly by Arsenal over the weekend, adding to a loss to West Ham United, and they are now off the pace as far as a top-half finish is concerned.

Nevertheless, Villa will be relatively happy to have all-but wrapped up safety with nine games to go given their poor start.

Villa may have received a blow in their bid to land Leeds United midfielder Kalvin Phillips.

The Midlands giants have been heavily linked with a move for the England international, who is said to be set to consider his future this summer, with Leeds well below par this term.

But according to Football Insider, West Ham are now showing an interest, and that could be an issue for Villa, especially with the Hammers vying for a European spot.

Cash manoeuvre

Another one from Football Insider, and this report claims Villa are preparing a big-money new contract for star full-back Matty Cash.

Cash is being linked with a move to Atletico Madrid this summer, with the La Liga giants eyeing a replacement for Kieran Tripper.

The report claims Villa are desperate to do all they can to keep hold of Cash, and a new contract could be key.

Though, it remains to be seen whether Cash has had his head turned by the possibility of interest from Spain.
